So, I've been working on some scanned negs, and noticed some
"junk" in the deep shadows. I'm not sure if it's just
schmutz picked up over 3+ decades, stuff from less than
perfectly clean processing, or scanner noise.

I've never seen scanner noise (that I know of), don't know
what to look for, etc. Can someone explain what it looks
like in a scanned image? Where does it come from? How can
it be reduced or eliminated in the scanning process (apart
from anti-noise software being used after the fact).

Thanks ...
