So, I was just sitting here, working away and feeling a bit peckish. I went
to the fridge and got myself a nice, crispy Granny Smith apple.

Came back to my 'puter, stuck the apple on my desk, just in front of my
monitor, and continued typing.

For some reason, the apple caught my eye. I noticed that it had some cool
beads of condensation all over it, and I liked the way that the light from
my monitor was bouncing off it.

It just so happened that the *istD, with 18-35mm FAJ lens was sitting in my
"IN" tray - also on my desk. So, I grabbed it, rested my elbows on my desk
(automatic tripod!), and took this photo:

A true grab shot if ever there was one!

The FAJ 18-35mm was set at 35mm, and that darn lens autofocused at like 10cm
away from that apple! I am amazed! Exposure settings were .3 of a second
(no kidding!), and wide open at f5.6. Spot metered for the highlight on the
top of the apple to prevent over exposure. Lighting was ambient and side lit
from my monitor. Nothing else!

I love the contrast of the purple and green (yes, my desk IS purple, what
other colour would it be?!?), and pretty sharp considering the settings I
thought.

I am constantly amazed by this lens, I am really starting to love it. I
mean handheld (but holding my breath and using my desk for stability!) at
.3, and wide open?!?! Sheesh, not bad for a "cheap" lens!

This was a grab shot in the truest sense of the word! I am quite impressed.
I mean yeah, it is only a boring old apple, but for some reason I like this
shot. Anyways, going back to the Abyss now (the Abyss of ebay that is!),
just thought I'd share. lol...

tan.
