Hi Rob you should mention the RAID level you are using to make your statement sound. only mirroring (Raid 1) or Raid 5 (parity writing over at least 3 disks) gives additional security, some people use simple drive spanning (Raid 0) which adds performance but increases the chance of a disk failure with total data loss a lot. Beside professional SCSI RAID Array's I do not consider IDE Raids with cheap onboard or PCI controllers or software RAIDS as useful and would not recommend it to any customer doing serious business and depending on it's data.
One of the most reliable CD-Writer comes form Plextor (plexwriter pro) and it's Plextools can test for media errors well. But MO is still the safest media today and I like an additional timed tape backup for computer systems. Markus >>I also employ a large RAID array for on-line storage >>however I consider HDD on-line or off-line to be more of data integrity risk >>than optical media.
