And even at that, manipulation can occur, without manipulation. An old advertising exec guy I know told me that in the '60's, for an ad campaign for Earl Shibe (a famous L.A. car painting chain), they rented a car, took pictures of it, drove it into a wall, took pictures of it, and then used the pics for before and after shots, but in reverse order....
