Fortunately the density of the data off cameras such as the *ist D is so smooth pixel to pixel (particularly when sharpening is set to low) that it's impossible to tell the difference between TIFF and minimum JPG out for the camera. This is why you will hear so many people claim that saving TIFF in camera is a waste of time (I agree completely). It's either JPG or RAW for me and RAW offers so much more control of contrast, the camera generated JPG files are surprisingly good.
