United/Air New Zealand fly non-stop between Sydney and San Francisco; that's under 7500 miles. The current aircraft being used is a 747-400. (Contrary to intuition, Syndney to San Francisco is actually a slightly shorter flight than Sydney to Los Angeles, which is just over 7500 miles). New York to Sydney is almost 10,000 miles - a far different proposition.
