I have shot with Pentax and Nikon in terms of autofocus, and though it may
be true that Pentax may be a little slower, I find that I use manual focus
with the *ist D as often as when I used the D1X and D1H.

It is a question of taste perhaps, I find myself relying on AF at times and
finding out that I should have used mf and gotten the shot I wanted.

Most often my sport shots are with the manual focus A* 300/4.

Maybe it's just Pentax autofocus, but I find when you begin to depend
upon it, it lets you down.
