The "enhanced" look good very well be due to the person operating the machine. I quite often adjust the "exposure" on my customer's prints because of the limitations of most one time use and P&S cameras. Many of their close ups of people are blown out due to the flash being too close to the subject. It's amazing how much 2 or 3 stops of "darken" can restore detail that appears to be lost. On the other hand, those shots where the subjects appear too dark, a little bit of "brighten" can sometimes bring out detail in shadows. I'm still learning the machine, so I'm sure I'll get better with more experience.
