Yes, I beleive it says something like "Will not work in other devices, such as digital cameras" There are also different packaging styles, but mine was in the newer style box while being an older unit. I beleive you can tell from the end of the serial, but not sure. Once you remove the microdrive, the serial on it will tell you if it works too (something ending in 44C or somesuch doesn't work, I think).
