I've had some very mild vignetting with the SMC Takumar 20mm and a not-excessively-thick el cheepo UV filter. I've had no trouble using the same brand of filters on Nikkor lenses, but they normally are a little larger in filter size for a given focal/aperture lens and that may be why they don't vignette. I've got an ultra-thin on my 18mm Nikkor because I was told I'd need it. I WOULD worry about a polarizer, because they are normally thicker. DJE
