Oddly enough, I'll generally leave my gear in the trunk of my car in the hotel car park rather than leave it in the hotel room. If I'm staying at an expensive hotel, of course, I'll check the bag with the concierge. But there's more theft from hotel rooms than from just about anywhere else.
