My preference would be for a nature weekend. I would head slowly SSE from Columbus, heading for the Smokies but prepared to turn around and go home when the time was up, however far I had gotten. Take the side roads, go into the State parks, walk the trails. I would either let inspiration strike me or I would pre-select 2-3 themes. E.g., macros of a) flowers, b) textured things I come across, plus c) wide angle scenics. (GFM participants will recognize that topic.)
If you would rather drive to and stay in one place, you might also consider going NNW. You can reach Great Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in just about 8 hours. (west of Traverse City about 40 miles, Lake Michigan side of Michigan) The dunes are great and there are many opportunities for wide scenics, macros, people shots, whatever. And it will be cooler than the Smokies. With fewer bugs. If you smear mud on your license plates and don't tell people that you are from Ohio, they are quite friendly.

It looks like the weekend of the 15th of August I'm going to take Friday for myself and travel around with the camera & lots and lots of film. All by my lonesome.
But I don't want to go more than 8 hrs from Columbus. That could take me to Great Smokies, DC, Philly, Niagra, Michigan, Chicago, Nashville, St. Louis ... lots of places.
Outfit includes: KX for b&w, Super Program for color with
K30, A35/2, F50/1.7, A100/2.8
YashicaMat 124
Nakagoa 4x5 with Fujinon-W 135/5.6 and Comm. Komura 210/6.3.
Purpose is to shoot for fun. No poses planned. Just scapes of a large variety.
So ... where would you go and what would you shoot. Give me some ideas to work with.
TIA,
Collin
(For those looking @ 4x5 wood fields, the Nakagoa is nice. Though it has a fairly short bellows, the body folds pretty thin and it as a good rear tilt. Also focuses easily using front or rear knobs.)
