It might be the solution for you but given the cost of insurance here to cover theft from an unattended car only I insure a limited amount of gear in any case. So I might as well just lug it about. I had over AU$40k worth of Leica/Mamiya kit in my Mini-trekker on my last O/S trip and from recollection it cost me around AU$1200 for the premium and another AU$1200 to cover the time overseas. I don't leave my kit locked in a car even for short periods, it's just too darn easy to smash a window and grab. I never leave kit in the car park at hotels either, they are like shopping malls for crooks. It doesn't help either that I have a waggon/estate. Sometimes I'd like to have had a lens with me that's still at home but them's the breaks.
