Hi, Dan.
On first thought, I was pretty sure you were right, ans it turns out you're pretty close. In the 1990 USA population census, 3,9 million people in the USA claimed Norwegian heritage. That's 1 million short of Norway. Minnesota is one of the states they are most numerous, but far from the only one. Check this map for a coarse distribution: http://www.nb.no/emigrasjon/map.html
Learned something new today myself...:-)

What first surprises me is that there are so many in Texas, Arizona and Florida!
Maybe filled with those who finally sickened of the bone marrow cold of Norway, and needed some heat to bake out?
What surprises me next is, there are so few in Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire...
Maybe too much like home?
