I don't know about the EI-2000, but I was given a Nikon 990 for an
anniversary present. It does produce great images. It has replaced my film
cameras for snapshots of the kids. I scan all my negatives anyway, and this
saves on cleanup. It still has annoying P&S qualities like major delay on
shutter tripping, speed of autofocus, weak flash, etc. But the CCD imagers
are getting quite good. I'm happy having both. I look forward to the day
when I can afford the digital version of the MZ-S.
