Chinon still makes screw mount and K mount cameras, (as well as Nikon
AIS, and until recently OM mount as well). The K mount was sold under a
number of store brands and the Vivitar brand in the US at least, the m42
is the new Voitlander Bessaflex, the AIS is sold as a Nikon model, as
was the OM sold by Olympus.

Well, I've seen at least on Chinese brand (Chinon?) that makes what
looks a heck of a lot like a K1000, almost exactly in fact.
Chinon is actually a fairly well established Japanese camera maker. They
made some nice screwmount bodies in the 70's, I almost bought one. I believe
they also made K mount bodies. I don't know if they made any AF bodies
though, or if they are still making cameras.
There was a Chinese company that bought the molds and rights to produce the
K1000 after Pentax stopped making them. I forget the name of the company. I
think they went from match needle metering to LED's, other then that pretty
similar, though not the best workmanship.
