My mistake. It's not the hold buttton that fixates exposure - it's the AE-L button (works for 20 secs). I'm not sure what the hold button is for - except holds the Multifunction Wheel (shutterspeed dial) in it's current setting. I don't really know why.
But if HOLD is activated while the camera is in program mode - I can change aperture - and the speed will adjsut accordingly (like my old Rolleicord, where the aperture ring and the speed dial could be inter-locked to maintain the same EV). If HOLD is activated while the camera is Av mode - I can change aperture without canging the speed. This (HOLD in Av mode) must be usefull for flashphotography, wher you don't wnat the speed changed. Perhaps someone might explain the purpose of the HOLD button. (I guess I see the HOLD button as a compensation for not having a traditional shutterspeed dial). Anyway, during exposure, the mirror will cover the viewfinder screen/prisma, so no light from the eyepice/ocular can hit the film or affect exposure. Some cameras kan adjust exposure during exposure, if the lights change, because they have real time measuring off the film plane. (I don't know if the MZ-S has measuring off the film. My Super A has (for TTL-flash). And the LX has I guess. The AE-L will prevent changes during actual exposure - the eyepiece wount. I guees theres's hardly any point in using af an eyepiece cover, unless your will be opreating the camera for more than 20 secs, i.e. with a remote release or cable release. And yes, the AE-L is simply a Memory Lock. I assume that HOLD does the same as exposure lock in the -5n, which is the same as metering and setting to Manual mode. I thought the problem is not just to do with the metering, but with the exposure itself too. Otherwise, what's the point of the eyepiece covers? Curious, Kostas
