One promising scanner (at least on paper) for this class is the Canon
D2400F flatbed scanner. It has 2400dpi optical resolution and FARE
(Canon's digital ICE clone) IR channel for scratch removal, a first for
flatbed I believe; and a DMAX of 3.3. It's due to be released next month;
but I have not seen any reviews yet. It's listed for US$499.
