When I was a teenager, in the early '70's, just getting into photography, I wanted a
Spotmatic more than anything else. I couldn't afford one, and for less than 1/2 the
price, I got a Praktica. Hey, at least it was screwmount!

I got back into photography about 3 years ago, when my late father picked up an
Sp500 for $20 Cdn at a yard sale - along with a mint 3.5 200mm pre-set Tak!

Since then, I've been bitten by the bug, and love my Spotmatics and Taks. There is
certainly something very comforting about their simplicity and precision, the fact
that they still take beautiful pictures after all this time.

Seeing the outpouring from LX owners today, I wonder if Spottie owners felt the same
way some 25 or more years ago, when Pentax stopped making them?

Although I've never used one, LX's look like a beautiful system, and I can
understand how all you owners must feel today. My deepest sympathies!

But, if the Spotmatic is any guide, 25 years from now, there'll be LX clubs,
web-pages, they'll be actively bid for on eBay (or its replacements). Because, as
mentioned, unlike many plastic blobs of cameras made today, Lord knows that LX's
will still be humming along, taking pictures that rival or better whatever will be
out there at that time!

regards,
frank
