It just feels good and you can take vertical pictures easier. I.e. it
boils down to ergonomics. The battery problem (frequently shows empty)
makes it a PITA.

Hi Tan,
I found that the camera will arbitrarily choose between the sets of
batteries when you turn the camera on, so both sets would be depleted
simultaneously when they first went.
My solution was to remove the battery set in the camera and keep the one in
the grip...

So, I finally splashed out and got myself the battery grip, but I am
finding
that when connected, it keeps saying that "batteries are depleted", even
though both the grip and the camera have new batteries in them. When I
remove the grip, the camera works fine and the battery indicator shows as
full.
I think I remember some time back, other people having a similar problem?
What solutions did you guys come up with?
