I like Katrin's book more than Martin Evening's tome mainly because she
doesn't waste a lot of time on the basics and offers greater depth in
retouching and adjusting photos in Photoshop.  For example, Katrin has
about eight examples of ways to convert color to B&W, Evening far less. 
Likewise for sharpening, etc ....

That said, I have and use both books.  They work well together, each
covering certain aspects in greater depth.  My advice: get 'em both.

I'd also suggest jopining the Photoshop list where Katrin sometimes hangs
out, and where those who have created Photoshop sometimes appear to answer
questions or settle confused disputes.  Between the books and the list,
you'll be a PS expert in no time.
