This seems to be a very good idea, Herb - using NiMH (perhaps like 2300 mAh), and then keeping a set of CR-V3 as backup for emergencies only, since they are quite expensive - app. 50 USD a pair - here. The pair of CR-V3, that came with my camera, lasted app. 1250 shots. That's not too bad. All the best
