That will change from place to place.
In Canada, for example, most provinces seem to have 10 days paid vacation, where I live, the number is 15 days.

Most Americans do NOT have 22 days of vacation!
Something like 13 is more like it. The rest is sick leave allowance...usually 5 to 10 days.
In most larger companies, after 10 years of service, there are vacation days added for each 5 additional years of service.
By the time it gets interesting (or close to matching European vacation times) you can't really afford to take it! That's because whatever project you're working on cannot usually get by with having you out of the picture that long!
So, we end up taking long weekends and such.
