I've had one for a few months and find it works fine for my needs. I've been dabbling in medium format and I wanted an inexpensive scanner that could handle the large negatives. The Epson 3170 can handle up to 6x9cm negatives. With the included adapter you can scan two 35mm negative strips at a time (a maximum of 12 negatives), and the transparancy adapter can handle four slides at a time.
Its pretty slow (at least on my four year old PC) but I'm happy with it. Scanning a 6x9cm negative at 3200dpi gives me an incredible 70+ megapixels, which is massive overkill as I never print bigger than 8x10s. Does give lots of scope for cropping though ! I have a few sample scans here http://ist.uwaterloo.ca/~fwwidall/Epson3170/ I think the 3170 has now been superseded by the 4180. Henry's in Toronto are selling the 4180 for CA$330 (after mail in rebate) which is what I paid for the 3170. Hope that helps. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Fred Widall, Email: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] URL: http://www.ist.uwaterloo.ca/~fwwidall ---------------------------------------------------------------------- On Tue, 19 Oct 2004, Billy Abbott wrote: > On Tue, 19 Oct 2004, Steve Jolly wrote: > > > Anyone got one of these scanners to use with C41 negatives?
