I also think that the image is more powerful when cropped. In fact, I
was printing a cropped version of this photo in my Epson printer, to
test how HP photo paper behaved with this particular printer, when I
thought I could send this photo to May's PUG. At first I had the doubt
whether to send the cropped version, and state in the comment that the
image had been cropped, or send the photo uncropped. After having read
here in the PDML so many messages about "to crop or not to crop" in the
last few months, I decided to send it just the way it is in the
negative.
The man was aware that I was taking his photo, in fact I asked him for
permission, and I took one more photo using a different lens.
I like his facial expression too, and the wrinkles in his skinny body
are interesting too. Everything is more evident in the enlarged and
cropped version I printed than in the smaller JPEG file.
