Yes, but for the ultimate in "can't-be-bothered-to-use-a-vise"
convenience, leaving the K-mount on the lens makes it easy to gouge
off the flange while hand-holding the lens.  (Heck, you don't even
have to worry about the "one divided by the focal length" rule for
this sort of hand-holding - <g>.)

No problems, except perhaps for "resale-abilty".  And, some buyers -
not collectors, of course - might even appreciate that you've taken
care of the modification for them already (assuming that you've done
a neat job, of course).

Well, my own assumption is that Vivitar lens specifiers wanted to
maybe offer some extra in-the-film-chamber anti-flare baffling of
some sort - certainly 90% of the extra flange material doesn't offer
any protection to the aperture lever, right?
