Hi, Don. > The baffle on these lenses comes off quite easily with 2-3 screws. > I won't have to risk doing it on the lens.
Yes, but for the ultimate in "can't-be-bothered-to-use-a-vise" convenience, leaving the K-mount on the lens makes it easy to gouge off the flange while hand-holding the lens. (Heck, you don't even have to worry about the "one divided by the focal length" rule for this sort of hand-holding - <g>.) > I wanted to make sure removing part of the flange wouldn't cause > any problems down the road. No problems, except perhaps for "resale-abilty". And, some buyers - not collectors, of course - might even appreciate that you've taken care of the modification for them already (assuming that you've done a neat job, of course). > I assumed it was just there to protect the aperture lever and > served no other important function. Well, my own assumption is that Vivitar lens specifiers wanted to maybe offer some extra in-the-film-chamber anti-flare baffling of some sort - certainly 90% of the extra flange material doesn't offer any protection to the aperture lever, right? > But, you know what they say happens when one ass-u-me s! ;-) ;-) Fred
