I've done this to my Series 1 Macro (I think it is the 90-180 Flat-Field). Not sure of the range, but I know it's the Flat-Field. As far as I can tell, it hasn't affected the lens in the least. I just filed it down with a metal file to an appropriate size . . . oh, and I protected the rear elements and openings with electrical tape.
