Both. Military aircraft are exempt from all that anti-noise polutions stuff
including minimum altitudes. Second they have such nice things as afterburners
on their engines which give them a lot more power and thrust, but are noisy as
hell. Luckily there are military regulations against going supersonic over
populated areas except in time of war.

Which reminds me ... Are fighters actually much louder than
jetliners, or is it just that when they pass over my house
they do so at a much lower altitude than jetliners do?
