They certainly are louder.  Civil jets have to comply with noise
restrictions, while military aircraft don't.

I used to live in the flightpath of Dorval Airport in Montreal, a
couple of miles away.  The jets back then (60's) were very loud
compared to today's fanjet powered airliners.  Nowadays, especially
when landing, they are amazingly quiet.

Military jets are much much much louder.
