I was both pleased and disappointed in the case of the Pentax lenses. I had been mulling the idea of replacing an FA 28-70 f/2.8 (glorious optic-but heavy) with an FA 24-90 f/3.5-4.5 (at 50mm) which was pitted against a 50mm f/1.7 AF (FA, F?). Think I'll hold off on the 24-90. It's only one SQF test, but not good.
Interesting - the only comment for that lens on Stan's site compares the FA24-90 favourably to the legendary A35-105/3.5 in terms of optical quality. I have the latter lens, and while it's probably not as sharp as any of the 50s, it's remarkable for a zoom of its era.
