Hi,
The one complaint I have is, I can no longer find Watney's Ale on tap anywhere! Used to get it wherever I went, now it's disappeared... They go out of business, do you suppose?
Not sure, I've not come across Watneys myself in some time, was it brewed in Newcastle?
Southern shandy. 8-)
It used to be brewed at the Mortlake Brewery, south London. Watneys was a big seller for years until the real ale revolution came along, at which point Watney's became the byword for crap beer, and it never recovered.
The parent group was one of the leaders of the keg beer movement in the 1960's and unfortunately chose a well respected brand to pollute with the fizzy, tasteless muck. Thus was born Watney's "bleedin'" Red Barrel of Monty Python fame - which may have been a brand name in a previous incarnation.
