I have vivid memories of the Blackstone Rangers. I delivered pizzas in the Blackstone area in the late sixties. The Rangers used to chase me. I used to pray that my car would start. Fortunately, it always did. I went on vacation for a week in the summer. The kid who took over for me ended up in the hospital for a week with a broken arm, severe concussion, and multiple lacerations, courtesy of Jeff Forte and his Rangers. They were always pretty bad, but the US Congress anointed them by having Forte testify in congressional hearings. They changed their name to "Black Peacestone Nation", and Diana Ross sang about them. That caused them to go totally out of control, and the situation in Blackstone became very, very dangerous. Fortunately, they weren't as smart as they were dangerous, and I was always able to avoid them.

Hi Ann, I guess we never met at Unos. Oh well, it was a nice fantasy :-).
Well we can play act next Sept :)
I don't think I was ever there before '64. My mom lives in Chicago's Beverly Hills on the Southwest side. She grew up in Hyde Park and went to Thomas the Apostle high school on 53rd and University. I grew up in Avalon Park on the Southeast side and went to Mendel High School in Roseland. I went to an elementary school all-class reunion a few weeks ago. (That's when I shot Unos. Well I didn't really shoot Uno's. I shout the billboard:-). But the reunion was a lot of fun. It was at St. Felicitas elementary school on 84th and Blackstone.
My maiden name was Blackstone... Remember the Blackstone gang? THey used to call
and harrass my mother back in the late 60's I think. My father was a distan't cousin of
the guy they named the hotel afterward -- or so Pop claimed. '
FOr a few years we lived on the south side -- I went to Bryn Mawr elementary for a bit.
Several hundred people showed up, including about half a dozen from the class of '37! Six of my classmates came. I hadn't seen any of them in 40 years. Great time. Just to keep this OT, I should add that I brought my *istD and the DA 16-45. I thought about bringing the 50/1.4 so I could shoot available light, but it turned out I really needed the focal length flexibility. Had to !
use the pop-up flash, but with a shutter speed of 1.30 at f4, the ambient light was sufficient to provide okay results. However, if I had to do it again, I'd bring my M 35/2 and shoot available light.

I think the tenor of the times is contributing to this kind of thing -- I'm expecting a huge
turnout at Senn in Sept.
Well - hope the rest of the lsit is just skipping out on this exchange or ignoring it ! :)

Gosh Ann, if you hung around at Uno's in the sixties, I may have tried apick-up line or two on you. <vbg>. I was there most often in the '64 to '66 time
frame. I wish I was in town to join you and Bob for pizza. (I can overlook the
new institutionalized look.) I do make the trip from time to time since my mom
still lives in Chicago, so let me know if you plan an outing and I'll try to
schedule a Chicago trip accordingly.Paul
Although I'd like to get there sooner, I don't think I can -- But I will
definitely be there in September
of 2005 for my Senn HIgh school 50th class reunion.
