Low light AF performance and availability of VR lenses made me switch to the dark side, although the one beginning with N in name ;-) Try mentioned by Cotty combination (or D70 with 70-200/2.8 AF-S VR) and you'll indeed soon know why there are so little (if any) photographers using Pentax during sport events :-)
