This is a known problem with the FA 28-70/f4. There's been reports of a tendency for a couple of
the rear elements to separate. I just checked mine, which I use fairly regularly, (I'd been lucky up
till now), and it too seems to have what looks like a light splotchy haze somewhere in the rear element
group. The result appears to be a veiling flare when a light source is too close to the edge of the
frame. This is truly a PITA since I really like this little zoom. I can't complain much however since I
bought it as new in a box for about $70.00 about a two years ago, and I've gotten a lot of use out of
it.

After some fun with the FA16-45 on the istD, I decided to try the
FA28-70 that I had on the ZX5n. Now, that camera has been in its bag,
unused, for about a year now.

Horror: the lens seems fogged. It is as if it were moist inside, but
not quite. The fogging is in the internal elements. I'm going to put
in in the sun for a few hours to see if it "dries", but don't expect
too much.

Luckily, it was isolated from other lenses, so if this is fungus I
think the other lenses are ok...

I can understand why mankind hasn't given up war. During a war you get to drive tanks through the sides of buildings and shoot foreigners - two things that are usually frowned on during peacetime.
