Where the lens goes on the tripod, there are a couple of 1/4-20
screw holes on the bottom of the plate, which bolts to the 501 
quick release plate.
 Does yours have the 1/4-20 screw holes?
 Have you used a filter (rear mounted) on yours? I couldn't`t get
the flange loose where the filters go, so I took it to my repair
guy and he got it loose.
