Hi John ...

These things, and "etc", are probably legitimate items for some
people. Although I didn't mention it in my original list, I carry
credit cards with me, although I don't consider it a part of my
photo kit. Many people don't carry credit cards with them unless
they feel there may be a need to use them, such as when out
photographing and a need for film or supplies comes up.

As for the .45, again, it's a jungle out there. There are plenty of
people who carry heat as a matter of course, but I can understand
why some might want to carry a roscoe when toting hundreds or
thousands of dollars worth of camera gear.

While I've found no need to go armed in my area, I've once carried a
gun while photographing in Alaska and once while in the Arizona
desert. I wouldn't say the weapon was actually part of my "kit",
but being in an area where it was legal to carry, and where
situations could come up in which a gun might be handy, I took one
with me.

On a separate note, since we get a lot of messages on this list, it
might be helpful if you were to quote a little of the message to
which you're replying. This helps us old farts with poor memories
and minimal cognitive skills to keep track up things.

Anyway, I'm sure I speak for others on the list when I say that I
hope you stick around and get to know the participants and get a
better feel for the list. There's lots of good information to be
found here, not only about Pentax gear, but about photography in
general, as well as numerous off-topic subjects. There are
different styles of posting, some serious, some humorous, but
eventually you'll find the answers to all your questions.

BTW, I used to live in St. Louis, out in Westwood, and worked in
Brentwood. Where are you?
