Two of the more asinine things Microsoft has tried to foist on us.
"Bob" was an interface developed for, I think, Windows 95. Your screen
was set up as Bob's house and you went to different rooms to do
different things. Childish, dippy and dumb -- and it did not last very
long in the market before MS quietly dropped it. It was around for such
a short period of time I barely remember much about it.
"Clippy" is an animated paper clip that appears in the lower right hand
corner when you open programs in MS Office -- I forget which version,
maybe both 97 and 2000. It offers to help you if you do not know what
you are doing. I don't know exactly what help it offers since I always
shut the stupid thing down as soon as it appears whenever I use Office
on someone else's computer. It also has been widely ridiculed, and MS
has announced that it will be deleted from the next version of Office.
Both based on the premise that the typical computer user is a complete
idiot. Kodak seems to be using the same research to develop its new
labeling scheme.
