The fractional price of a DSLR is never going to be at the same level as an 
entry level film SLR, there is just too much low volume tech in there. I doubt 
P&S digicams will ever rise above the sensors sizes their designer have come to 
adopt with vigour so APS sensors will remain relative niche products. 
Unfortunately user changeable sensors isn't going to happen any day soon 
either.

I expect demand for a dedicated B&W digicam would be low indeed, all our papers 
including the local (two editions per week) are full colour and have been for 
many years now.
