I shot 107 photographs today with my *ist-DS and DA18-55mm. I've examined every one for 'banding' but can only find 4 images which are affected. Three of them have multiple stripes running through them, the fourth (which I took from a slightly different position than the pther three) has only three stripes.
I can find no evidence of 'banding' in the other 103 shots. The four which were affected were all shot at 1600 ASA, 1/50 sec at F4. I shot a total of 13 shots at 1600 ASA and at similar shutter speeds, and none of the other nine show any problem. I cannot see any pattern deveoping here. I think I'm going to assume that it was some weird combination of lighting, background and the exposure setting which caused the problem. As a couple of people have mentioned this seems to be a fairly common problem with Canon DSLRs, and has been addressed with a firmware update. I've reported this problem to Pentax to see if they have any comments or suggestions to offer. In the meantime I'll just enjoy my new camera and keep an eye out for future problems. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Fred Widall, Email: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] URL: http://www.ist.uwaterloo.ca/~fwwidall ----------------------------------------------------------------------
