This sounds a lot like the behavior I get with my pz-1p and flash.
On that camera, with a Sunpack analog flash in TTL mode, sometimes the
camera takes the shot, closes the shutter, but then forgets to flip the
mirror down and advance the film. Seems to be related to the voltage levels
on the hotshoe -- if I let the flash continue to charge at least 10-30
seconds after the ready indicator comes on, I never have the problem. The
theory is that the battery voltage droops as the flash is charging, so the
extra charge time allows the charging circuit to draw less current from the
batteries, which means that their voltage can rise back up to where the
camera electronics are not confused when I take a shot.
I wouldn't mention this at all because the equipment is so different, but
when I asked here about the problems, others mentioned that the problem
sounded similar to ones the LX sometimes experienced and that perhaps Pentax
had reused the flash-ready circuit design.
