I'm going to take a wild guess here. [BTW, I don't
own an LX :-( ]

First, are you trying this with film in the camera?
My thought is that with the flash on "A", the camera
(LX) will rely on the flash to give proper exposure.
No problems there right? Now, switch to ttl, and now
the camera is determining proper exposure. If there
is no film in the camera, that means that the IDM is
reading the black pressure plate. Since this relects
much less light than film, the camera will think that
the flash is not generating enough light to properly
expose the photo, so the camera holds the shutter open
to try to gather more light. Since the shutter can
stay open up to 125 seconds, this would seem like it's
locking up.

Is this a possibility or am way off base here?

Thanks,

William in Utah.
