Yes, they shoot lots of photos. But they are all very good photos. Not a bad one in the bunch. They may have shot a hundred frames where I would shoot 2 or 3, but nothing of theirs was junk. What they are shooting for is "selection". Selection is giving the editor many similar shots to chose from. It is not machine gun shooting at all.
However, many people do not know just what these guys do, and there now seem to be many who do use the MG approach, but I would not consider them to be great photographers.
Remember, anything that goes into the circular file is a waste of time, money, and effort.
