one of the really important lessons from most photo books and workshops
about seriously turning pro is to learn to shoot lots, be really merciless
about picking the best, and throw away the ones that don't make the grade,
because if you can't, your editors will do it for you by tossing you too.
Galen Rowell's stock photography collection is about half a million images,
and that is after trashing 80% or more. his collection is not unusual for a
really successful stock photographer. making it in stock isn't about getting
perfect shots, it's about getting huge quantities of really, really good
ones. you get that only by shooting lots and developing an instinct for when
the moments are there.
