I can use my umbrellas as reflectors and aim the flash units away from the subject and into the umbrellas. This way I get reflected light. Or I can turn the flash units around and fire them through the reflectors, which are made of white vinyl that is not completely opaque. Let's say I fire them through the umbrellas and my stop is f16 @ ISO 200. If I turn the flash units around and fire them into the reflectors (moving them forward about 18 inches to maintain the same light source to camera distance), I'll end about at the half stop between 11 and 16 at the same ISO 200 value. To me, this says that the light is more diffuse when it's reflected. Paul
