Agreed.  The manual is poorly written and somewhat overwhelming.

Not knowing how you shoot, I can tell you how I normally shoot with it. Almost always in the Hyper Program mode. One dial controls aperture (assuming you're using a lens with an 'A' setting), other dial controls shutter. Meter choices are easy. EV +/- is easy. If you don't want to change custom settings or do bracketing, that's all there is to it.

I can categorically state that if you run through changing a custom setting per the menus and repeat it a couple of times, you'll quickly catch on. Within an hour or two this camera will feel like an old friend.

I think (without owning one) that it needn't be more complex that the
other bodies; only if you want to use it to its full potential do you
need to worry much.
