Thanks for the feedback - I think you are right.

Just for the record here - this is a comparison of the Canoscan FS-4000 (which I assume is roughly equal to the LS-400 in quality) and the Epson 3200 flatbed...

And I may know where an Epson 3200 will be for sale soon :-)

If I were grading it based on film-like qualities, I'd say that the
LS-9000 has more acutance, but more grain. The Epson has less
acutance, but less graininess.
Interesting comparison. Been thinking about getting an Epson 3200,
once the toy budget gets a bit more replenished.
