The purple tint to the film suggests that it never saw any developer at all, either before OR after fixing. The anti-halation backing of films is cleared in the developer, and some developers clear it better than others. Sometimes you get a slight purple or pink tint even when processing has been successful, in which case a brief rinse in fresh developer will clear it away (followed by normal washing of course).
