I don't know. I know of several users of that range up to 9000. I haven't talked to them about it yet, but one that used the 4000 in work told me of the same problem. I think the wheel probably need just a cleaning, but all in all, I don't like the mechanism when there could be probably a better solution without that risk. It's not a bad scanner otherwise :-) after one learns to overcome some of the limitations of scanning technology... With dense silver and C41 negs, I am experimenting with making two scans both with different analog gain and merging them in postprocessing. So far the results are interesting. I just wish I had it with Silverfast or something easier to use than the Nikon Scan. Tried Vuescan, but didn't like it. fra
