I think Pentax users dumped the brand like rats leaving a sinking ship during
the 90's. There are only a handful of enthusiast left. I got the impression
from the interview that Pentax attitude is to acquire a new customer base from
scratch start with the *ist D(S) users. Probably becuase there are precious few
old customers left.
I happen to think that Pentax, at least in the near future, will be unable to
sell a camera equal to Canon and Nikon high-end DSLR's in performance at a
competing price because they have a lot smaller customer base and will achieve
much smaller volumes.
MF based DSLR is a totally different kettle of fish that justify higher prices
and lower volumes. I take for granted that Pentax is in near contact with their
professional customer base in japan and judging by how they tout this camera,
they must think theres a market for it.
