Hey Bruce,

I have the Scan Dual 2 as well and am rather pleased with it.

On the plus side, it scans slides rather well. I think the Dmax rating is a
bit conservative as I've thrown some rather tough slides at it and all went
well. It also scans B&W pretty smoothly.
On the down side, it's very noisy and kinda slow. Also, my negs scan in a
bit rotated. I haven't gotten any film creep but negs need to be
consistently rotated .75 degrees CW. This is kinda of annoying. Lastly, it
really struggles with certain color neg films (protra 160vc, superia 400,
and 800).
It did, however, scan in ektapress and portra 400NC rather beautifully.
Since I primarily shoot B&W film and the occasional slide, I'm rather
pleased with it. I don't think I could done much better with a sub $500 film
scanner.
